THE IMMINENT DANGER OF A CHASTANET PRIME MINISTERSHIP

Michael Chastanet: NOT The Enemy...

Let us not make the mistake of  thinking Michael Chastanet is the be-all-end-all of Consolidate Foods, Ltd.  He is a major part of it and a magnet for all it's negative press. But he is not the dictator. And let us also remember that The Great Monopolist ushered in a new age of lower supermarket prices, competition and good customer service. The fact that his competitors can't survive that is not his fault.  He is NOT the enemy.

Having said  that, there is still some danger in having a prime minister whose father writes the checks that Treasury waits on to pay people.

Yes. I said it. Treasury calls up the Inland Revenue Department to find out if certain deposits have been made. That's how they know they are in the clear.

I once attended a conference with a national security component where talked about the real core danger of money laundering. It can destabilize your little democracy. Raw cash power can totally skew the rules and cause distortions  that corrupt law, principle and democracy itself.

At the conference, it was made clear that it doesn't have to actually do these things to be a danger. It just has to be able to.

The very capacity to hold a government as a economic hostage is dangerous. Luckily, Old Man Chas ha not been known to lord it over governments. He just wants his own way every now and again. Which most of us have conceded to. But that's how it starts, isn't it?

Next thing you know, his commerce-ophile son will be Prime Minister. And then what? What do you expect? Politics is the art of the possible.  People do whatever they think they can get away with. Look: Ti Chas already tried to sell a beach. What do you think he won't do?

  1. Michael Chastanet NEVER had a monopoly on the local market. He has however been the market leader.

  2. Amatus, why do you insist on agreeing with me but making it sound like you don't. I want to argue with you, but we have to actually be disagreeing.
