THE NOOSE TIGHTENS

HE WHO IS ONLY FOR HIMSELF ENDS UP BY HIMSELF

Pablo
“He is for himself,” said a former colleague in the police force, a few years ago. “He has always been this way – pompous and bragging and pushing himself forward, except when things are hot and bullets are flying, then he’s nowhere near the front. He was always for himself alone. And that’s why he will end up by himself.”

It was a time of terrible lawlessness and corruption on the force. Evidence would disappear frequently. Hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of dollars in evidence is on record as disappearing or permanently misplaced. He, of course, would never do such a thing. He was a man of prayer and faith and funny smelling oils, if you know what I mean.

“He was the only one of us in our year at university who was not paying a student loan,” said a legal colleague. “And then, he suddenly had luxury cars and acquired property in Castries, and put a new building on it – a still no burden of debts – I mean, whadafuq?”

'Lalalalalalala' That's what she's says when she hears good sense
The ineptitude of the then-government, the utter couyon-osity of Lala, one of its disgruntled MPs and of the opposition opened the doors to power and put the island on the road to become a narco-state. Lala gave up her seat in Parliament to spite her own government and he stepped into the breach, winning as an independent. The opposition had no choice but to embrace him.

In opposition, he was the black star of the lightless opposition's torch. The return of their foxy old leader had brought energy back to the party. His alliance with the opposition in 2006 put the party over the top. He was two or three steps from ultimate power.

In the streets, he was the Boss. The man who made things run. It was all going so well. All the rebels and lost boys became his soldiers, as well as many of the cops. He was practically invincible. But invincibility is a weakness. It makes a man reckless. It makes him break rules that should only be bent. It made him forget who was the real boss in democracy. It made him forget that one can only act with impunity,  sometimes.

And so today:

In politics, his alliance with the once and current opposition is almost at an end. With his former allies hellbent on electing an enemy as their political leader, he is back to being a lone wolf. After that election, the new leader and his supporters will do everything in their power to quietly make him cease to exist (as a political force).

The once great army and cult has been reduced to a shadow of its former self. And now the wolves are circling. The Americans revoked his visa while he was still a powerful and most influential minister. Scotland Yard investigations into a luxury car theft ring led to the death of a fella named ‘Cars’ – the first man to have a convertible Audi in the island – and to the amazing disappearance of the former minister’s own prized convertible. Cars met his end by fire in a garbage bin. The former minister’s convertible? Wasn’t sold. Wasn’t reported stolen. Wasn’t shipped out. Just not there anymore.

Just not there. So much for evidence.

  1. I've been a bit out of the loop (by choice), this is the first I'm hearing of this Scotland Yard investigation. Do you have a link to this story posted?

  2. Allen Chastanet's Chastanet's narcissistic excursion into fantasy is even more frightening.

Quitting this class of men [i.e., Tories], I turn with the warm ardour of a friend to those who have nobly stood yet determined to stand the matter out; I call not upon a few, but upon all; not on THIS party or THAT truth but on EVERY party; up and help us; lay your shoulders to the wheel; better have too much force than too little, when so great an object is at stake. Let it be told to the future world, that in the depth of economic crisis, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive, that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, come forth to meet and to repulse it. Say not, that thousands are gone, turn out your tens of thousands; throw not the bur hen of the day upon Providence, but "Shew your faith by your works," that God may bless you. It matters not where you live, or what rank of life you hold, the evil or the blessing will reach you all. The far and the near, the home counties and the back, the rich and the poor, shall suffer or rejoice alike. The heart that feels not now, is dead: The blood of his children shall curse his cowardice, who shrinks back at a time when a little might have saved the whole, and made them happy. I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.

    1. Amen.

I don't know which is more frightening:

      1. Chastanet's economic elitism and his inability to see it for himself.

      2. Kenny's academic elitism and their total inability to think out of the box.

      3. Well, that's what we discussed in the article...sorry, fictional story...
